Do you consider yourself beautiful?
I do. After all, I write this blog, don’t I?
When I saw Dove’s Choose Beautiful video, I was surprised when I asked myself if I would walk through the door labeled “beautiful” or the door labeled “average”.
The video shows women in cities around the world making a choice to walk through the “beautiful” door or the “average” door, then interviewing the women about their choices.
After I watched the video I knew if faced with the same scenario I’d walk through the “average” door.
I asked myself that question and I heard my grandmother’s voice in mind, telling me that vanity is sinful. She told me it’s immoral to consider myself beautiful.
Thinking of my grandmother’s attempt at guidance, I wondered what other kinds of well-meaning yet self-disapproving messages we hear from family, friends, and even ourselves.
Then I thought about what type of influence I want to be in the lives of every woman and girl I know. I want to inspire self-love, self-acceptance, self-celebration!
Maybe I could, maybe I would walk through the “beautiful” door.
What about you? Which door would you walk through? What type of influence do you want to be?
