I can’t wear that!
I don’t do sleeveless. I don’t wear shorts. These aren’t good looks for me.
I’m rarely seen without a cardigan thrown over sleeveless tops and dresses. I’m silently sweating through Summer in my cardigans, dreaming of the cooler days of Fall.
No matter the Summer heat, I’ll be wearing capris or jeans instead of shorts. Tim Gunn can say what he likes about capris, they look better than shorts, don’t they?
What if I can?
A few weeks ago I thought about the things I tell myself I can’t do as I walked to work on a particularly hot day. Why, yes, I was wearing a cardigan over my sleeveless dress.
What if I told myself I look good in sleeveless tops? What if I told myself I can wear shorts?
So I gave it a try. I wore sleeveless dresses and ditched the cardi- not once, but twice! When I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror I felt as good as I looked.
When I volunteered for the local animal rescue on a hot day I wore shorts. Not once did I think about my shorts- I doubt anyone else was paying attention when I was walking around a completely adorable adoptable dog!
I can wear anything I want, as long as I feel good in it. My body, my clothes don’t determine my beauty- my attitude about myself does.
So stop telling yourself you can’t pull off a certain style or look. Stop telling yourself your arms are too flabby, or your butt is too flat. Wear what you like and love every minute of it. It’s what I’m going to do!
